Hostelling International USA (HI-USA) is part of a world wide hostelling network called the International Youth Hostel Federation, with over 4,000 hostels in 60 countries. By a measure of overnights, we are the 3rd largest accommodations provider on the planet. Hostels are for everyone, of all ages. Hostels are for people who want an accommodations experience, not just a clean room with a TV. Hostels exist so that people can get to know one another. Isn’t it time you went hostelling?
Hostelling In Minnesota
The Minnesota Council of HI-USA, based in St. Paul, is proud to operate the Mississippi Headwaters Hostel in Itasca State Park, MN. It’s a beautifully restored and modernized log lodge in the heart of Itasca – only minutes from the Mississippi Headwaters. It’s a remote and beautiful hostel, perfect for groups, family reunions, and people who want a home base while exploring Minnesota’s oldest state park.
Hostelling In The U.S.A.
But log lodges are not the only kinds of hostels in the USA. You can stay in a beautiful, modern building in downtown Chicago or Seattle. You can stay in a lighthouse just south of San Francisco. You can in an incredible brownstone on the upper westside in New York City. There are 60 hostels across the U.S. and the variety of accommodations is astounding. Some are funky, some are cozy, some are big city – yet they all have a number of things in common: cleanliness, safety, friendly staff, and common spaces for interacting with fellow travelers from all over the world.
Hostelling Around The World
Most people discover hostelling in Europe, where it began. Hostelling is a way of life in Europe, enjoyed by all people from church groups to college students, from families to senior citizens. Hostels exist in castles, warehouses, small homes and everything in between. The variety and the authenticity of the locations is incredible. Hostels exist all over the world, in most any country you would want to visit.
The International Youth Hostel Federation, founded in Germany in 1908 as an international not-for-profit charitable organization, has a mission to provide shared accommodation “in which there will be no distinctions of race, nationality, colour, religion, sex, class or political opinions, in order to promote intercultural youth exchange as an effective means for young people to learn from each other, while achieving a better understanding of culture both at home and abroad.”
Become a part of the hostelling movement today. People just like you are doing it. They are saving money; they are meeting good folks from around the world; and they are having a good time.
